Home Decorating for the Sophisticate

When you have a picky, sophisticated style, it can be difficult to decorate your home. Learning to appreciate the little things will keep you in the loop with life and loving your home, sophisticated or not.

Decorating your home can be difficult. We all know that. But if you’re one of those people that has a slightly sophisticated taste, if you yourself may not be a sophisticated person, decorating your home can be a veritable nightmare.

As a Home Decorating Sophisticate, or HDS as it were, you have a refined taste in furniture, flooring, sashes, throw pillows, drapery, rugs, lighting, hanging artwork and pretty much everything else that comes through your line of vision. You can sense imbalance in your sleep and your aura blends with Zen decorating on an ultimately frightening level.

Never fear, though. You don’t have to go to a professional decorator to get the look you want and can be happy with for your home-which is great because with your picky style, a professional decorator would be a complete waste of thousands of dollars.

First things first. Learn to appreciate imbalance and make it work with your extreme sense of balance. When you’re learning to appreciate the simple things in life, the sophisticated side of you can break lose and make it difficult. One of the most important things a sophisticate must know when trying to decorate a home for reality is that there can never be perfect balance in everything. Life may be about learning achieve balance, but if you have kids, or a life that moves with the speed of the world, there’s bound to be an occasional dirty sock on the floor, traffic marks and hand smudges on your walls. Decorate to suit those needs.

You may need to purchase an area rug to cover the places where people walk the most. Oriental rugs are perfect for parlors, living rooms and dining rooms as well as any other place your sophisticated little heart needs to put one. In outdoor spaces or sunrooms a well made bamboo area rug or seagrass area rug can be an excellent addition to your motif. Remember though, that an area rug is more than just a way to cover up the little imperfections that send your sophistication radar blaring up a storm. An area rug is a way to bring warmth and life into your otherwise over-perfected home.

But don’t think that it’s only about area rugs and covering things up that you don’t want to see. Decorating as a sophisticate is also about learning to appreciate the macaroni and glitter jewelry box your daughter made enough to proudly display it next to the Faberge egg knock off your grandmother left you.

Remind yourself everyday that sophistication is less important than the little things in life. As a sophisticate you can always have a beautiful home that you love. But it is so few and far between that a sophisticate can have both a beloved home and home that’s full of love.

It’s not easy to have a sophisticated home that is also full of life and ready for reality. Give life a change and you may find it’s more sophisticated than you thought.

Sarah Crosset has worked in the interior decorating field for many years and loves to share her home decorating experiences and ideas with sophisticates everywhere. Her number one tip for adding sophistication to a room is to lay down area rugs. Try red area rugs from www.HouseOfAreaRugs.com for a vibrant sophisticated look.

The Zen of a Water Vacuum Cleaner

0

Posted by admin | Posted in Vacuums & Storage | Posted on 29-11-2009

OK, you may not reach enlightenment with a water vacuum but I hope to help you see the importance of having one around your home. The lowly shop vac or wet-dry vacuum cleaner is usually relegated to the garage or other storage area. These large canister type vacuums typically hold gallons depending on their designed use.

Almost any workshop but especially one that is used for woodworking should always have a working water vacuum system to keep dust and wood sawdust under control. This is especially important if you’re building anything for the outdoors using chemically treated wood material. The chemicals used to create pressure treated lumber, typically used for outdoor structures has long been suspected of being a cancer causing agent. Using a water vacuum, it’s possible to safely cut and build playground equipment or decks without to much worry about breathing in the chemical laden sawdust.

Where a water vacuum really shines however is in the area of water pick up. Imagine having a filled bathtub and needing to work on the drain. Removing the water is the first action needed to let you even get to the drain that needs repair. Yes, it’s possible to manually bucket out the water, making a mess along the way to emptying each bucket. The faster and easier way however is to just hook up that shop vac and suck out the water into the large holding tank of the vacuum. It’s fast, easy and you will make fewer trips to empty a shop vac than doing it by hand.

There are many other emergency uses where a wet-dry shop vac can come in handy. If you’re a homeowner, there always seems to be some problem lying just around the corner. A washing machine overflow due to a clogged drain pipe, a water heater leak or if you have kids, “someone” that used the toilet to give their a teddy bear a bath and overflowed the toilet. All these minor emergencies can be quickly cleaned up using a water vacuum cleaner instead of a mop and bucket.

The large vacuum hose also is great to pick up a variety of things that would take a long time to do by hand. Back in the workshop, kitty litter is great for cleaning up those accidental spills. Spilling the kitty litter however is a much bigger mess due to it’s very dusty nature. Most kitty litter, at least the stuff we use in spillage control is made of clay granules. Clay however tends to be dusty in the bag causing little clay dust storms when cleaning up large amounts of the material. Using a water vacuum however, the kitty litter can easily be collected without making another dusty mess.

I hope that these few examples of how to use a water vacuum cleaner has helped you in your path to realizing how convenient having one of these wet-dry vacuums can be around the house.

Are You Considering a Garden Fountain?

Posted by admin | Posted in Patio, Lawn & Garden | Posted on 29-11-2009

When you enjoy your garden with its lawn areas, flowers and shrubs, one of the ways to enhance the overall ambiance of the garden is to install a garden fountain. Before you run out and buy a fountain though you do need to do a bit of planning. You have to size up your garden to find the perfect place where you can display it to its best advantage. Take the measurements of the garden so that you have it in a place where it won’t look out of place or dominate the garden itself. You also have to look at the various types of patio fountains (http://www.garden-fountains.com/Detail.bok?no=3413) available in order to get one that is just the right size for your needs.

You need to place a garden fountain in the best location so that you can easily see when you sit in your favorite place, whether this is on the patio or on a bench in the garden itself. You also need to hear the water flowing in the fountain, which will give you a sense of peace and serenity. Since there are many styles of fountains to choose from, you should take a bit of time and do some research to find the one that will best suit the style of your garden. There are numerous sites online that sell these fountains and offer information of the types of gardens they suit.

If you have a pond on your property, then this would be the natural location for a garden fountain (http://www.garden-fountains.com/Detail.bok?no=1070). You shouldn’t let a small size garden deter you because there are wall fountains that will not use up any of the land space. These attach to any wall and give the same effect as the freestanding fountains. You also have a choice in materials when you consider installing a fountain in your garden. There are models made from fiberglass, stone, ceramic, cast iron, porcelain, concrete and many others which stand up well and serve you for many years.

Installing a garden fountain is a very simple task. If you decide upon a freestanding fountain, then you will likely have to pour a concrete foundation for the base to keep it firmly in place. This is a necessity if the area in which you live receives high winds. Some models of outdoor fountains include the pump and the accessories or you may have to purchase these separately.

The instructions that come with them are detailed enough that you can complete the installation on your own, but there are professionals who will do the job for a price. Once you know where you are going to place the fountain in the garden, then you just have to connect the pump to a source of water. In some cases, you may have to dislodge some of the sods in order to connect the pump to the main water line, but you can achieve this without too much disruption to the garden if you take your time.

Browse the extensive lists of garden fountains available online to choose one that meets your needs in style and size. You may want to recreate the fountain images of pictures you have seen of courtyards in the ancient world or in the Orient. Take your time in making the decision so that you are completely satisfied with the overall result.

Anhui, Jiangxi and some other regions achieved the highest YOY growth rates.

From 2008 H2 to 2009 H1, Chinese central government issued a series of policies to stimulate domestic demands for home appliances. Implementation Measures on Replacement of Household Electrical Appliances and the policy of home appliances going to the countryside are regarded as the most important ones.

According to the policy of home appliances going to the countryside, Chinese governments give financial subsidies for farmers to buy home appliances (color TV, refrigerator, washing machine and cell phone). After purchasing home appliances, customers can receive subsidies from their township financial departments on the basis of the purchase vouchers and IDs.

Investigation shows that every 100 Chinese rural households possess only 2/3 of the number of color TVs of urban households (1/2 of numbers of washing machines and cell phones at most, 1/4 of the number of refrigerators). Currently, the popularization degree of home appliances in Chinese rural areas is only equal to that of urban areas at the end of 1980s.

To cope with the financial crisis, Chinese central government promotes the policy of home appliances going to the countryside over China and releases financial subsidies for farmers to purchase home appliances. This will stimulate domestic demands of Chinese home appliance industry; exploit potentials of Chinese rural consumption market; relieve difficulties of Chinese home appliance industry.

On June 28th, 2009, Implementation Measures on Replacement of Household Electrical Appliances was issued by China Ministry of Finance, China Ministry of Commerce, National Development and Reform Commission, China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Ministry of Environmental Protection, State Administration for Industry & Commerce (SAIC) and China General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. It gives the concrete guidance on the subsidy measures, procedures and implementation of trade-in of household appliances. Different form the policy of home appliances going to the countryside (only in rural markets), the policy of Replacement of Household Electrical Appliances focuses on urban consumers. Subsidies will be given to consumers when they purchase home appliances and sales sectors can apply for these subsidies from Chinese financial departments.

Domestically, home appliance enterprises are transferring the expansion focus from large and medium cities to township and rural markets, from southeast coastal areas to undeveloped areas in Central China and West China.

Globally, Chinese home appliance enterprises will enhance the expansion of the international market and adopt the strategy of diversifying markets. Chinese home appliance industry should seize opportunities in emerging markets such as Middle East and Africa when export to European and American markets dropped sharply.

Learn From Wise Online Furniture Sale Shoppers

0

Posted by admin | Posted in Furniture & Decor | Posted on 29-11-2009

Although very desperate, the most wise furniture sale shoppers will usually only deal with online home interior merchants who will tell you up front how exactly an item is made. Furthermore, they will also only make transactions with companies who reveal up front whether an item is a replica or an original.

Likewise, they only deal with reputable vendors. These respected Internet retailers are recognized by their willingness to respond to all customer service enquiries as soon as possible.

They are also usually noted for their openness, and willingness to provide company contact information. They also usually provide customers with best times to reach them, or they offer established business hours.

Of course, the only way to know for sure whether or not a company is respectable is to read feedback given by satisfied (or unsatisfied) customers. Furthermore, they usually will comment on items that they are purchased according to how durable, dependable, and/or convenient those items are.

Obviously, the most trustworthy vendors will have the most extensive history of customer service satisfaction. Even if a complaint is made against one of these honest vendors, if they handle it properly in a way that satisfied the customer, this company is likely to be trusted.

Besides offering plenty of well-made items for sale, furniture companies who are honest also usually will often provide basic interior decoration tips. If not, they will at least, they will present photos of items for sale in a sample display.

You will benefit from this free advice as you use it to help stir up creativity within you. Furthermore, it will help imagine what the item would look like used in one or more ways.

In addition to the above, wise consumers know that the most trustworthy vendors are well-known for their commitment to producing or selling merchandise that will not easily break, fall apart, or crack. Already mentioned is the fact that you know of these companies as you seek information from consumer reviews.

The companies of high reputation also usually are remembered by most people. This further helps wise shoppers be confident that they can trust that vendor. This level of trust is especially necessary when using the Internet to shop.

Of course, even if they shop with vendors they can rely on, wise furniture sale shoppers also know that a furniture sale is usually for a limited time. Therefore, they know better to take advantage of discounts while they still can.

Combine Luxurious Bedding with Fragrance for a Restful Sleep

0

Posted by admin | Posted in Bedding & Bath | Posted on 29-11-2009

Sleep can come at a premium some nights. We live stressful,
hectic, active lives and when it’s time to finally lie down on
the bed to sleep we need every advantage we can get to fall
asleep quickly to get the rest we need. If you can quiet the
mind and relax you are well on your way to slumber land. I hope
to offer just a few tips that show you how to combine luxurious
bedding with essential oils for a restful night sleep.

What determines luxurious bedding? Is it how the sheets look,
how they fit the mattress, or fiber content and thread count? It
is all of the above. If you have a set of sheets that you don’t
like because the print is obnoxious, they won’t be luxurious in
your eyes. They will just annoy you if you can’t stand the way
they look in your bedroom. Maybe your linens were a gift from
your former mother in-law, or worse yet, from a former marriage.
I would be donating those sheets because they probably won’t
promote relaxation if you are thinking of unpleasant experiences
from your past. It matters that all of your bedding fits the mattress properly. Your sheets won’t have a
long life if they are stretched and pulled too tightly over the
pillow top mattress. It would be very easy to rip or tear the
seams of a fitted sheet. You could find yourself in the middle
of the night with a sheet wrapped around your feet because it
has popped off of the corners. There is a lot that can be said
when it comes to fabric content and thread count. First of all,
cotton is said to be the most comfortable but there are many
different qualities of cotton. I had inexpensive 100% cotton
sheets but they shrunk, pilled and were very uncomfortable to
sleep on. Egyptian and Pima cotton bedding are still the best
and were once found only in high end stores, but that has all
changed. You can now find them just about everywhere at any
price. Read the fine print on the label because if it is “cotton
rich” you will only find a small percentage of cotton and the
rest will be polyester. Now for the confusing thread count
issue. Thread count refers to the numbers of threads per square
inch of fabric. A count of 200 – 280 is very good, but 300 – 400
is better. Usually a higher thread count has a softer “hand” and
is pill resistant so logically they should be softer and more
comfortable to sleep on.

Now you know what makes up fabulous sheets, it’s time to check
out the incredible silk and cotton comforter with 900 fill goose down. This top of
the line comforter is the best in allergy free warmth and
comfort. Keep it just as it is or add a beautiful silk duvet
cover to match your bedroom décor. You might want to consider a
feather bed for the top of the mattress as well. When you put
together this combination of soft comfort and beautiful style,
it just doesn’t get any better.

Let’s talk about Fragrance Now let’s talk about the scent part
of the equation. You can achieve a relaxed mind that promotes
sleep through the use of essential oils. Essential oils are
volatile essences that are extracted from plants, roots, leaves,
fruits etc. by steam, distillation, expression, or extraction.
Certain oils have been scientifically proven to relieve stress
and relax the body and mind. The essential oils that are best
for relaxation and sleep are: •Lavender, Geranium, Rose Maroc
•Marjoram, Rosewood, Clary Sage •Neroli, Petitgrain, Sandalwood
•Chamomile, Vetiver Now that you know some of the essential oils
that are best for relaxation, you can easily use them before you
go to bed for a fragrant night time experience. You can blend
about 16 drops of the oils together, add water, put in a misting
bottle and spray your sheets, pillowcases, nightgown or pajamas.
Spray at a distance because the oils may stain the fabric. You
might take other oils from the list and drop in a small electric
diffuser plugged into the wall. It will dispense scent
throughout the evening.

You may want to take some of your favorite oils and mix them
with an unscented lotion for a romantic relaxing massage before
going to bed. Doesn’t that sound like just the thing to relieve
stress? You can also use oils dropped in a hot bath. The steam
will cause the aroma to drift into the air, relaxing you as you
soak your cares away.

Now combine the luxurious bedding you have chosen and your
favorite fragrance into one stress relieving experience. Let me
paint the picture for you. Your choice of bedding is 300 thread
count Egyptian cotton sheets in a soft pink or green. You have a
mattress that has new high tech memory foam and a down comforter
with a reversible pink and green duvet cover. You have just come
out of a hot bath where you added neroli and geranium. You are
now ready for bed in your satin or flannel pajamas that have
been sprayed with chamomile. Your electric diffuser is filling
your bedroom with the scent of French lavender. You spend almost
a third of your life in bed and you deserve the best. Follow
some of these ideas and you are well on your way to the best
night sleep of your life.

Secured Home Improvement Loans: Creating A Haven For Yourself!

0

Posted by admin | Posted in Home Improvement | Posted on 29-11-2009

With the pride of owning the perfect home, comes the hard work of it’s maintenance and furnishing – which is not always a very easy job. Transforming your house into a home or rather – your “haven”, requires not only additional creativity and time, but also an outsized fraction of those saved finances. This may not always be possible with all the regular monthly bills, other debts, household expenses and chores and any additional urgencies that require financial attention. For those of us who feel that home improvements and enhancements are equally important and not just a luxury, but who are at the same time faced with a financial constraint, there is a solution – “Secured Home Improvement Loans.”

Just as the name suggests, Secured Home Improvement Loans are loans or financial solutions taken to assist us in making certain required home improvements. Secured Home Improvement Loans are taken to beautify your home either for your own tastefulness or to add to the current value of your home. Improvement is usually a permanent addition or modification of real property. Home improvements could include house painting, redecoration, repair, refurnishing or renovation. It can also include adding a storey to the house or certain additional home developments to increase the capital value of the house in terms of real estate.

Secured Home Improvement Loans are usually given to home owners. Secured Home Improvement Loans are like regular personal loans where you have to be knowledgeable with regard to interest rates, credit history, collateral, etc. Being secured, this loan entails the presence of collateral. Collateral is some kind of security put up by a borrower that remains in the possession of the loan lender until complete repayment of the loan. Collateral can be in the form of a home, other property in the borrower’s name, a bank account, automobiles, jewellery or any securable asset of the kind. It is important to mention, here, that in case a borrower defaults in his monthly payments or makes incomplete repayments, a lender can pursue the borrower through the legal system, simultaneously seizing the collateral.

Secured Home Improvement Loans are ideally better off than their unsecured counterpart because of the interest rate. As we all know, interest is what makes a loan attractive and feasible. When loans are secured, as in the case of Secured Home Improvement Loans, the interest rate is comparatively lower. This is because the lender can be assured of repayment when collateral of sizable value is placed against it. The interest rate for Home Improvement Loans varies with the amount you wish to borrow, your credit history, the equity in your home and collateral.

With high value collateral, the amount that can be loaned to a borrower is raised, the repayment term is further extended and the repayment options are made more flexible. Good credit history will add impetus to all these benefits while bad credit can do just the opposite.

One of the key factors in availing an inexpensive Secured Home Improvement Loan is the equity of your house or real estate, which refers to a measure of how much of the mortgage on the property, has been paid. Thus, higher the equity better is your chance of locating a cheap Secured Home Improvement Loan and getting a decent amount of loan.

When in the turf to get yourself a good Secured Home Improvement Loan, remember to clarify all details before signing on the dotted line. After all – it’s your money and your home. Comparing interest rates offered on Secured Home Improvement Loans from different lenders gives you a good idea of how competitive they are and familiarizes you with interest rates. Finalize on a Secured Home Improvement Loan only once you are sure that you can meet it’s demands, in terms of interest, monthly payments and collateral necessities. These loans could take a little longer to process because Secured Home Improvement Loan necessitates valuation of collateral. But one thing is for sure, the time it takes is well worth the money saved on interest.
