Time and space efficient carpet sweeper

saving money, time and space. The choice is yours, to either have a lightweight carpet sweeper or a bulky, loud vacuum cleaner.

If you want a carpet sweeper of high quality, one of the best choices is a Fuller Brush selection. So, what is a carpet sweeper? It is a floor cleaner that works like a vacuum cleaner but manual. Manual sounds like work, but not with one of these little wonders. They only weigh three or four pounds, unlike that heavy motorized vacuum cleaner. You can push or pull them with virtually no problem and no cord to get tripped up in. Also, manual give you a noise-free environment so you won’t disturb loved ones that are napping, or the pets.

The popularity of the carpet sweeper started when the staff of theater, or hotels wanted to clean messes; but quietly. Carpet sweepers have come to the public as a time saver and energy efficient alternative to conventional cleaning systems.

You’ll find many uses for a carpet sweeper of your own.

You do need to understand that carpet sweepers can’t clean all messes that a motorized vacuum cleaner can. They do wonders for small jobs though, such as potato chip crumbs or pet hair. Of course everyone has 10 times the small messes per day compared to the large messes that take a bulky old vacuum cleaner. With a carpet sweeper you can clean these small messes simply and easily.

How about space saving? A carpet sweeper is ideal for small spaces and they’re portable too. You can move your umbrella out of the way and put your carpet sweeper in. That’s how convenient they are. You can also fold them up for even easier storage.

Saving space is a great concern but how about saving you time. This is possible because you don’t have to lug the heavy vacuum out, find and outlet, vacuum, move to another outlet and re-store. Just pull out your carpet sweeper, push over messes, store and go. You’re also conserving energy by not using that monolithic, energy hog.

You really want one of these carpet sweepers for yourself and you’re wondering which kind to buy. Go steel, never plastic. If you are doing some really vigorous cleaning you could break a plastic model. Think about the brush too. You don’t want to choose a model with a simple brush, a rotating brush is much better. If you choose a really good brand carpet sweeper you know that these models will pick up hair and even dust with their rotor brush because of natural boar bristles. Another important consideration for choosing your carpet sweeper; be sure it folds down flat and is adjustable. This makes it easier to clean under furniture.

A carpet sweeper is a handy cleaning device for anyone. They’ll save you space, time and even money on energy costs.

The Importance Of Home Appliances

Posted by admin | Posted in Home Appliances | Posted on 31-12-2009

Home appliances are a necessity in every household. What would people do without a refrigerator to keep their eggs and milk cold? Or a freezer to keep their ice cream frozen? Imagine figuring out a way to cook your food without a stove or microwave oven. It would be pretty impossible. Sure, way back before these things were invented, people had other means of cooling their food and cooking it as well. They didn’t even know what a microwave or a dishwasher was.

People have gotten so accustomed to the convenience of the appliances that they use everyday that most couldn’t imagine living without them. They don’t know how to react when storms cause the power to go out for days at a time. This is why buying home appliances is a popular, billion-dollar industry.

Manufacturers are always creating appliances that work even better than before. Super energy efficient models of every appliance out there use less energy, and therefore enable the customers to save money. People are willing to pay more for these particular appliances, because in the long run, they’re actually saving a lot more money than they’re spending.

New appliances like the Maytag Drying Center allows consumers to save money in two ways. The first reason that they save money is because the center uses a lot less electricity and gas than traditional dryers, making it energy efficient. The second way that it allows customers to save money is because it totally eliminates the need to have clothes sent to the dry cleaners. The drying center contains a handy top rack where users can conveniently hang their clothes inside to be cleaned without water, just as if it had been dry cleaned. No need to be exposed to the chemicals that professional dry cleaners use, ever again.

With the technological advances of today’s appliances, people are obviously drawn to these products, yet they don’t want to pay astronomical prices. They don’t have to, either. With all the competition out there, retailers are always marking down the prices on certain appliances in order to get them to sell. Then there’s always the internet. Some people have given up the traditional ways of shopping, and choose to do all of their shopping online. They love the convenience, and the ability to find any item that they desire. They also like the fact that they don’t have to worry about driving through heavy traffic, standing in long lines, etc. Plus, there are some great deals on retailer’s websites. Some even offer the convenience of coupons, right on the websites. So, since appliances are so important and we must buy them, we may as well pay as little for them as possible, by shopping online to get some great deals.

Place the Bird Bath in Just the Right Place

When it comes to providing a place for birds in your area to splash, bathe, play, and drink, a bird bath can please both the feathered and human inhabitants of the property. Bird baths serve as a huge draw to entice birds of all types to your yard, and in turn, the birds receive a necessary place to refresh themselves on hot summer days or chilly winter nights. Before you purchase a bird bath, first consider where you will place the bird bath in your yard or garden to ensure the specific style you wish will fit the outdoor space.

You have countless options when it comes to where to place a bird bath, but the most popular places include:

• Decks or Porches: If you do not have a great deal of space in your yard, or do not have a yard at all, consider purchasing a bird bath that affixes to the railings on a deck of porch. In addition to having the bird bath close to reach for refilling, installing a bird bath on your deck or porch will allow you to enjoy the birds that flock to your bath up close and personal.

• Up in the Trees: What better place to put a bath for your birds than up in the trees? Choose a hanging bird bath that will suspend in your trees so that your birds will not have to leave home to get a drink of water or take a bath. Consider hanging a bird bath near a window so that you can enjoy the birds while they splish and splash. However, keep in mind that bird baths will need to be cleaned and refilled, so avoid hanging a bird bath too far out of your reach so that you will not be able to properly maintain the bath.

• In Your Garden: If space permits, consider creating a sanctuary for the birds in your area. Use stylish bird baths to add style and flair to your yard or garden. Since running water is popular with birds, often enticing them to visit your bird bath over a neighbor’s bird bath, use a fountain bird bath to add a special touch. In addition to enticing the birds in your area, the tranquil sound of running water will allow you to enjoy your outdoor space and relax in your garden.

• Under the Trees: Since many birds seek the shelter of bird baths to escape from summer’s oppressive heat, placing a bird bath under the shade of trees in your yard will further entice birds to your area. However, keep in mind that the leaves and other debris from the trees can cause the bird bath to become dirty quicker so that it requires cleaning more frequently. Also, the blocked view from the trees may not allow you to see the birds that visit your yard and enjoy the bird bath. Generally, individuals choose to place bird baths in open places to prevent hassles associated with frequent cleanings.

• Near Your Home: Watching birds frolic will allow you to relax and unwind in your own home. Place your bird bath near a window that will allow you to oversee your feathered friends. Great places to watch birds include the kitchen, living room, bed room, or home office. Imagine taking a break from work to enjoy watching the birds or watching the flock while washing dishes in your kitchen.

Wherever you decide to place your bird bath in your yard or garden, remember the reason: to entice birds to your yard. Furthermore, consider the great variety of styles and sizes that will allow you to find a bath that matches your personal tastes.

Effective Home Decorating Colors

Posted by admin | Posted in Decoration | Posted on 31-12-2009

Using paint to revamp your room is one of the quickest and cost effective ways to decorate your home. Deciding on a color though can be difficult, so choose carefully. Give consideration to choice of color by sampling the shade on the walls using test pots.

Daylight can give different tones to a color which may not appear at all what you expected in the artificial light of the evening. Think, which colors appeal to you? Do you want something vibrant for instance in your kitchen to wake you up at breakfast time? Or calming soft neutral tones for your bedroom, to relax and unwind your mood at the end of a tiring day?

Here are some colors and ideas to consider when decorating your home:

Pure Brilliant White

This color can be very harsh and clinical if not teamed with the proper furniture, lighting, flooring etc. Different families of shades of white are widely available to give warmth to any room, but still achieving that sought after contemporary, minimal look.

Neutrals – Create the feeling of space, light and look completely chic.

Blues – Create the feeling of harmony and serenity and can give a calmness to any room. Alone this color can be cold. Teamed with different shades of the same family a warmer look can be created.

Greens – Creates a restful and airy space. Gives the feeling of outdoors, due to the tones of nature.

Lilacs – Creates the feeling of calmness and harmony. This is an ideal color for a bedroom due to it’s relaxing tones. Can be made modern by adding colors such as shocking pink for a more dramatic look.

Reds and Oranges – Creates a vibrant and alert atmosphere. These colors should be avoided in bedrooms due to their awakening tones.

Using a color wheel which is available from most D.I.Y stores is a helpful tool when choosing the color of your paint. Colors that work well together are the colors which are situated beside each on the color wheel, whilst colors that contrast are opposite each other on the wheel.

Contrasting colors though, give a dramatic bold effect when put together in a room. Also remember that when choosing soft furnishings and accessories, that you can use these to contrast or compliment the overall look.

Remember, always to balance the colors and stand back and take a look at your finished room. How you perceive your masterpiece may be biased, so it is always a good idea to get the opinion of a good friend as well.

Your home decorating will always come up to scratch if you have at least chosen the right colors.

Lawn Moles: Can You Remove Them Forever?

0

Posted by admin | Posted in Patio, Lawn & Garden | Posted on 31-12-2009

The unmistakable signs of lawn moles might just be one of those sights that sinks the heart of anyone who’s ever invested time and effort into maintaining a lawn. Lawn moles are a particularly unpopular pest because unlike most, they’re very difficult-if not impossible-to get rid of permanently. In most cases, the best you can do is reduce their activity level and try to learn to co-exist somewhat peacefully.

Home Remedies

There are a large number of mole-removal strategies that don’t work, and only a couple that actually do provide you with a shred of hope against these critters. Don’t bother with home remedies such as red pepper, pickle juice, bleach, camphor, or electronic or ultrasonic devices. They just don’t work.

The only home remedy that actually does occasionally work is castor oils granules, and that one is by no means guaranteed. However, it’s a cheap option so it’s definitely worth a try. For this one, just buy a bag of castor oil granules, and spread at a rate of one pound per one thousand square feet. Note that there’s no research to support this method-don’t be surprised if it doesn’t work.

Insecticides unfortunately don’t help much either. The rationale with these is that because moles feed on insects, removing their food source will cause them to go elsewhere. The problem is that moles don’t feed only on insects, so removing them isn’t much good. In fact, it can actually increase the damage done to your lawn, because the moles may start digging new tunnels to find new food sources. The other problem with this method is that you’ll also kill beneficial insects, as well as the ones the moles feed on.

Poison

Poisons are largely ineffective, simply because most available baits are grain-based, and moles do not eat grains. The main problem with poisons is that there’s absolutely no way to know whether any of the poison you lay out actually gets inside the moles in your garden. In addition, short of digging up the tunnels (and further destroying your lawn) you’ve got no way of removing the moles.

Traps

Traps are by far the most effective method of removal, but they’re tricky to set up. There are some important things to keep in mind if you’re going to try and trap moles. First, moles have a highly sensitive sense of smell, so it’s crucial to wear gloves when handling traps, to prevent them smelling like human. Leather gloves, or gloves made from any natural fiber, are best.

Traps should be set in a main tunnel, near an active mole hill for best results. If you’re not sure which hills are active, just push all the hills down on the same day, and then check the next day to see which ones have been pushed up again. Those hills will be active.

While trapping is the best way of getting rid of moles, it’s still not effective as a permanent removal method. Trapping is effective as long as you’re willing to continue doing it, but it’s not likely that your lawn will remain permanently mole-free. New moles can and will show up if the tunnels in your yard become empty and your yard remains a desirable habitat.

Peaceful Coexistence via Habitat Modification: Is it Possible?

Short of erecting a mole barrier around your entire yard, there is no 100% sure-fire way to remove moles permanently. Often, the best you can hope for is limiting their activity by modifying your yard to prevent them from tunneling extensively. Funnily enough, this is perhaps the only method that has a hope of working permanently. Yard modification makes your yard a less desirable habitat, so moles are less likely to return.

Modifying your yard can actually be a good thing for you as well as your yard. Many of the changes you can make will make your yard more aesthetically pleasing, as well as less attractive to moles.

The most effective solution of this type is to reduce the size of your lawn. One enormous swathe of green is prime mole territory, because it provides them with a large space for the long, straight tunnels they most prefer. Break up the lawn with paths, gardens, or patio areas and you’ll instantly make your yard a less mole-friendly place.

Another possibility is to try watering your lawn less deeply. Mole tunnels run deep, and moles tend to surface only when they must do so in search of food. Their food-earthworms and insects-moves close to the surface if a lawn is watered deeply, so by reducing your watering you may be able to prevent moles from surfacing as often.

Better Ways to Keep Your Leftovers Fresh

0

Posted by admin | Posted in Vacuums & Storage | Posted on 31-12-2009

We all have the best intentions – we make a large dinner and then put the leftovers in the refrigerator to be eaten later. The main problem is that the next day, the leftovers are a little stale and not so fresh, so we toss them out because no one wants to eat stale food. There has to be a better way to keep your leftover foods fresh – and there is. The main ingredient in keeping your leftovers fresh is fridge storage solutions.

There are many storage solutions for your leftovers. These range from the typical plastic tubs to more complex storage items which allow food to air.

Some fruits do not need to be kept in the fridge and fare better if they are stored on the counter. To keep your bananas fresh, look at purchasing a banana hook. A banana hook hangs the bananas up off the counter, preventing age spots and bruises – mimicking the natural habitat of bananas – hanging from a tree. A fruit basket that is open aired (usually made of metal wires) is a great idea for your other fruits and produce. You can put apples, grapes, oranges and more in an open air fruit basket to keep your fruit fresher, longer.

For produce that needs to stay in the refrigerator, look for a produce keeper with a water reservoir and air vents. These features control the moisture that your produce is exposed to and prevents wilting and browning. A produce keeper can keep your produce items fresh for weeks longer.

Another option for produce and left over foods is a vacuum container. With the proper seal, your food can stay fresh much longer than if it is not sealed. Vacuum containers are dishwasher and microwave safe, and can be used in the refrigerator or freezer. Make sure to purchase a clear container so that you can easily see the foods you have stored.

You can even keep your pies as fresh as they were out of the oven with a pie keeper. A pie keeper helps your pies stay fresh and intact, without crushing them during transport or stacking.

Keep your cereals and snacks fresh with a snack dispenser unit. These dispensers are air tight to provide maximum freshness for all your cereals and snacks.

If you have left over bread, be sure to keep it fresh with a bread container. A bread container keeps your loaf of bread from getting moldy. Bread typically becomes moldy when it is exposed to air. A bread keeper is adjustable to hold any size of bread loaf without crushing it.

In order to keep your left over foods fresh as long as possible, be sure that you are storing them appropriately. It is best to store each type of food individually so that you do not have any cross contamination, or soggy foods. What one food needs for moisture, another may not, and therefore you may end up with foods that have too much moisture.

Another important step to keeping left over foods fresh is to package them into the fridge as soon as possible after you have completed your meal. The sooner you can get them into refrigeration, the better. This lessens the amount of degradation that your foods may have by sitting out in the warmer, open air of your home.

Freezer solutions for left over foods are also an option – freezing leftovers into containers is a tradition that has been passed down through the generations. “Waste not, want not”, was the motto of the 30s, and these practices of everything having a use should not be lost today. If you are positive that no one is going to want to eat more turkey again this week, why not store it in the freezer in a freezer safe, air-tight container? That way, in a week or two when you are once again in the mood to eat turkey and you are looking for a quick meal idea, you can pull the left over foods out of the freezer. This allows you to serve them as fresh as they were on the day they were cooked.

Left over foods do not have to be stale, they can be foods that both you and your family enjoy eating as much as you did the day you cooked them. With the proper storage solutions for the refrigerator and freezer, you can store your leftovers and make use of them instead of throwing them away in the garbage.

You too can be a ‘waste not, want not’ family by utilizing your left over foods instead of throwing them away. Throwing food away is throwing money away. Many stores have storage solutions for your leftovers. The containers that you purchase can be used time and time again to save your food and save you money!

Imagine what life would be like without the residential home appliances which are installed in every house. Cooking meals would be a monstrous chore and cleaning up after meals would be a task that everyone would try to ignore. The home appliance fixtures have come to be relied on by millions of people to provide creative meals that are delicious for all families. Other appliances for the home have been trusted to keep all types of foods cool and fresh until eaten by the family during the month.

The most common residential cooking fixtures are stoves, ranges, and hoods. A family can choose to use these residential appliances with the cooking capabilities that come from gas fuel, or electricity. Other cooking methods are found in these in-home cooking appliances because people like to grill meats without having to venture outside the home, especially if there is snow on the ground outside. Those cooks would find the grill tops on gas ranges to be the perfect tool to rotisserie chicken or cook hamburgers to perfection.

Residential home appliances are cooking solutions that every family will utilize several times a day. The energy efficiency ratings on most cooking appliances will make preparing meals an affordable task that everyone enjoys in one form or another. Youngsters can prepare simple meals using small sized home appliances like sandwich makers and young adults can prepare meals while at work with the ever popular crock pot.

Many families rely on home appliances like microwave ovens to thaw and cook foods using electrical power and healthy cooking technologies. Through the electronic components of these small appliances, cooks have greater control over the cooking temperatures and timing mechanism that have always assured cooks that moisture will remain in cooked foods no matter what time of the day the cooking cycle has finished. These appliances assure families of vitamin-enriched meals that are flavorful and quick to prepare no matter which family member is at the control panel.

Some of these small sized appliances for residential use allow people to cook ethnic foods based on cooking styles from cultures that are totally foreign to them. Residential home appliances like rice cookers and woks can create meals with Oriental touches that produce cuisine that is quite delectable to enjoy at any time of the day. People use residential appliances to enrich the soul and revive the spirit and the home appliances are at time, used as an extension of a person’s creative personality.

People are more adventurous when cooking today because they do not have to worry about making messes. With residential appliances like electric dishwashers people can be more prone to entertaining at home more often. The energy efficient settings used on these appliances allow homeowners to control cleaning costs while ensuring that all bake ware, glassware and tableware is sterilized and ready to use again in the shortest time span imaginable. Some families will use the dishwasher to hide dishes until a full load is ready for washing and then they can enjoy using the residential home appliances that are sitting on the kitchen countertops.
