Kitchen Bar Stools

Perhaps one of the most used seats in your household is the kitchen bar stool. When one thinks of this item, they may envision a child sitting on it doing homework while mom or dad prepare dinner. Or, perhaps they envision a convenient place to sit after work while having a snack or a drink. They may even see friends sitting on the stools chatting with the person preparing meals or snacks. Kitchen bar stools may even be seen as seats for children at mealtime while adults eat at the dining table. Kitchen bar stools have grown in popularity along with the ever increasing sizes of kitchens and dining areas that are being built with overhanging counters.

There are many different kitchen bar stool designs to choose from to fit your kitchen decor. The right choice of bar stool can add to your kitchen decor while the wrong choice may hinder the overall look of your kitchen. Kitchen bar stools come with or without backs, different heights, swivel or non swivel as well as with or without arms. They also come in wood, metal, wrought iron and other materials. Sometimes, the many different choices can be overwhelming. To help you make the right choice, here are a few tips on choosing the right bar stool for your kitchen.

Kitchen bar stools go through a lot of use. With this in mind, it is wise to choose stools that are made of materials that can stand the test of time and wear. Be sure to avoid stools that are made of soft wood if they are going to be for kitchen use. Instead, you might want to choose stools that are made of wrought iron, hard wood, aluminum, stainless steel or chrome.

For comfort and convenience, it is important that you allow 12 inches from the top of the stool cushion to the bottom of the table or counter. Make sure the tops of the arms of the stools are able to slide under the counter or table easily if you decide on stools with arms.

Along with the stool itself, make sure that the cushions you will be using will stand the test of time as well. Avoid getting thin grade leather or vinyl cushions if choosing leather or vinyl. Bare wood or metal seats will last, but may not be as comfortable as a padded cushion.

Consider the other uses for your kitchen bar stool that may not involve the kitchen. Perhaps they will occasionally be used in the gameroom or TV room when you are entertaining guests. If you are planning to use them elsewhere, be sure to select stools that are light enough to be carried easily from one room to the next.

Kitchen stools are also wonderful additions to kitchens of busy people. They often serve as places to eat when you are on the go; from a quick bite before you leave for work in the morning or when you return for another bite to eat before heading out again. The kitchen bar stool isn’t just for breakfast anymore. It has become a versatile and convenient addition to any kitchen.

If you asked someone to tell you what types of furniture they would find in the living room or the bedroom, the answers would come to them right away. Couches, chairs, and small tables have their place in the living room, and the bedroom has a bed, a desk or a vanity, and a few dressers. If you asked someone about what kitchen furniture entails, however, he might be slightly confused. The kitchen has standard pieces of furniture as well, but the answers are slightly less obvious. The definition of furniture is large, moveable items that equip a house or a room. The key word here is “moveable.” As tempted as we are to call the refrigerator or the stove pieces of furniture, they are, in fact, appliances.

Here is a short guide to the furniture one might find in the kitchen.

A kitchen hutch. This piece of buffet furniture is usually large and stands up against the wall or in the corner of the room. The bottom half is usually kitchen cabinets and the top half are open or glassed shelves. Also known as a china hutch, the top shelves are the perfect place to displace choice pieces of your grandmother’s decorative porcelain dishes or you children’s latest masterpieces from art class. The bottom cabinet area gives you much needed storage space for either larger pots or dining room items such as places mats or candle stick holders.

A kitchen island. These units have become much more popular in recent years because people have started to realize how helpful and aesthetic an island is in their kitchen. Most kitchen lack essential counter space, which makes it very difficult to prepare family sized meals. The kitchen island quickly solves this problem. You can even use one edge of the counter on your island as a casual dining space. Purchase a few discount bar stools and you are all set.

A baker’s rack. Storage is hard to come by in the kitchen. There are so many different size pots and pans that one needs in order to make various dishes that it can be very difficult to find enough storage space to put everything. These racks not only help you store these items, it keeps them organized and easily accessible!

Kitchen furniture is extremely useful. Invest in a few pieces for your own kitchen today!

How to Clean the Kitchen Sink

The entire kitchen can be clean but if the kitchen sink is dirty the rest of the kitchen just doesn’t seem clean either. The kitchen sink is a focal point in the kitchen so a clean kitchen sink is important to the overall level of cleanliness in the entire room. Because it is heavily used, the kitchen sink quickly becomes soiled with food, grime and even rust if you have hard water. Clean the kitchen sink well and clean it often and the rest of the kitchen will seem cleaner too.

Step 1 Empty the sink and remove everything from behind the sink. If you store your dish soap on the back of the sink, move it to the counter as you clean. If you keep a container of hand soap on the back of the sink, set it aside. Put away any dishes that may be sitting in the dish drainer and remove the dish drainer.

Step 2 Wash the sink accessories before you wash the sink itself. Start with the dish drainer. If you look closely at the dish drainer you’ll be surprised to notice the way dust accumulates along the various grooves. Use a scrub brush to wash away all of the dust from the hard to reach surfaces of the drainer. Rinse well and set the drainer aside.

Step 3 Give the dish soap bottle and hand soap bottle a quick scrub with the scrub brush. Both of these bottles can become covered in a build up of soap drippings that are unsightly. Warm water and a quick scrubbing will easily remove them and make them sparkling clean when you return them to their places on the back of the kitchen sink. Once you’ve cleaned them, dry them with a kitchen towel and set them aside until you are done cleaning the rest of the sink.

Step 4 Wet the entire sink and give it a preliminary cleaning. Use a scrub brush and a few drops of dish soap to scrub away all of the food particles that may have attached themselves to the sink. Once the obvious particles are removed from the sink you are ready to do a deeper clean.

Step 5 Use a cleaning product approved for your kitchen sink. If your sink is stainless steel you can use an abrasive kitchen cleanser but if it is porcelain you’ll need something that is approved for the more delicate surface to prevent scratching or etching. Whatever the sink is made of just check the label to make sure your cleaner is approved for it. Scrub the entire sink, the back of the sink, the faucet, and the area behind the faucet. Thoroughly rinse away all traces of the cleanser.

Step 6 Dry the entire sink with a kitchen towel. Return the drainer and soap bottles to their designated locations. Admire your sparkling clean kitchen sink!

Kitchen Lighting

We have progressed far beyond the days when the kitchen used to be merely a room or space in your house, in which meals are cooked or served. Gradually over the recent past, the kitchen has evolved steadily into more of a family room, where people come together not only for meals twice a day, sharing much more than their ideas on food. This is where, vegetables are cleaned and cut, newspapers are read, homework completed, bills sorted, checks written out, and important conversations held.

If your kitchen is large enough with a kitchen or dining table of considerable size, you can even use it for entertainment of guests whom you invite over for lunch or dinner. With so many interesting and important things happening in your kitchen, one thing becomes crucial there—the lighting. Your kitchen needs to have adequate illumination so that all activities can take place without trouble.
Earlier, kitchens would have minimum lighting, hardly any windows, and the main source of light would be a single slit or skylight in the wall or ceiling. Shops today offer an abundance of lighting fixtures for the kitchen. With each having its own selling point, and each usable for a particular purpose, buying the right kitchen lighting fixture is quite a formidable task.
First, remember to keep in mind the dimensions of your kitchen, before zeroing in on your kitchen lighting choices. Make sure that the main areas where any work gets done in the kitchen are lit well, for example the stove, the sink, the counter top, the kitchen table have to have proper lighting for you to dice, wash, cook properly, as well as eat and do any other kind of desk work.

For the stove area, have some surface light installed below your cabinets, for more often than not, you will have cabinets above your stove. If there are no cabinets, you could install some wall lights to specially and clearly illuminate the stove area. Since cooking has to be hygienic, cleanliness is of utmost importance, hence the lighting.
Make sure to have proper lights above and below the cabinets, for more than illuminating the stove area. Clever lighting above the cabinets, will not only bring your stylish cabinets to life, adding energy with light, but also remove unwanted shadows from the walls of your kitchen.
The lights on the under surface of your cabinets will light the countertop too, which is where you can cut and dice your greens and meats, and make sure they are properly clean before you place them in your wok to cook them.

The table in your kitchen is one of the focal areas in your home, with a lot of activities other than eating taking place. So lighting it properly should be of paramount importance. Install a fixture like a pendant or a chandelier to brightly illuminate the table, preferably from the top. If you add a dimmer to the controls of this fixture, this can be utilized to proper advantage to change the aura or mood of the dining area, depending on the activity taking place there—for example for writing and a family meal use it bright and loud, for more romantic, intimate meals, dim it to a lighter mode or use candles (this also saves electricity). These additions are not only useful; they can go a long way in adding a sense of style to the kitchen. In case you have a television or computer in the kitchen, use effective lighting to eliminate the screen glare. Decorative or colored lights are also becoming increasingly well-liked these days. Whatever you may decide, try to get the advice of a professional in the area to help you illuminate your kitchen.

With very good reason, many of us are still a bit skeptical when it comes to online shopping and hunting for the best prices on the Internet. There are a lot of people out there trying to get our identities and use them to make purchases in our names. Some sites are even set up to look legitimate but really only exist to get our credit card information. So, whether you are shopping for beautiful dining chairs to complement that gorgeous oak dining room table you got for a steal on Ebay last week or a gift for your uncle Jim-there is always a risk of having your information compromised and thus exposing you to financial fraud.

Legitimate sites that are really selling furniture such as a dinette set will have actual products to sell along with articles on their particular niche. While many sites can paste a picture of a fine sofa or kitchen hutch along with a fake “Trusted Site” logo-few illegitimate ones will have all the details that go along with a real website. Don’t be afraid to use the “Contact Us” tab to ask a few questions about which stylish dining chairs go with what kinds of dining table genres.

If the site does not get back to you with a relevant answer to your question about furniture or d

Kitchen Lighting Design-How To Find The Best Lighting For Your Kitchen Now

Believe it or not, your kitchen lighting design is one of the most important components to your overall kitchen look and feel, but it’s something all too many people don’t pay nearly enough attention to. Depending on the kind of kitchen you want, your lighting design can make all the difference in your interior design being a success or failure.

Unfortunately, many people spend literally thousands of dollars to have their kitchen redesigned. They go to many different stores, use free kitchen design software and kitchen design online websites, get thousands of kitchen design ideas, and spend days picking out their cabinets, wall color, floor design, drawers and appliances.

However, they generally forget about the incredible difference that lighting can make. Without the right lighting, all your design efforts will be useless.

Many people end their long days after work by working in a cellar like kitchen with minimum lightening. Kitchen lighting design is going to save you from such poor working conditions.

Choose a bright paint for your kitchen walls and a light color floor as a fact bright color emits light and dark absorbs it. Divide your kitchen into a working area and seating area.

Your working area or task area should be well illuminated and your seating area should have pleasant lighting. Task areas can be over the cook top, over your sink or countertop where you cut vegetables.

Fluorescent tubes or shadow less tubes are best suited in these areas as they give ample amount of light needed for cooking, cleaning and reading out from recipes. Hanging pendent style lights and under cabinet lighting can be fixed as well.

Someone seated in one of your dining chairs could be admiring your clean china and crystal glasses inside a glass cupboard in accent lighting. Collectible porcelain or artwork anything you want to show off will not find any place better than this cupboard with your accent lighting effect.

Feature yourself seated to have dinner. You would definitely not want a tube burning brightly over your head. You need ambient lighting or pleasant lighting. There are varieties to choose from. Different colored lightings or shadow lights can be used for this place. Welcoming guests in your dining area in such a light would be brilliant.

Try keeping the window open for daylight in your kitchen. If you have placed a potted palm or fern in your kitchen a little bit of sunlight would do wonders for your plants. Finally, if at all possible, implement as many windows into your kitchen as possible, because the more windows, the more natural light you let in, which is obviously the best kind of light available.

Kitchen lighting is not just about necessity. It is about comfort, radiance and efficiency. Most likely, you probably want your kitchen to have as bright and cheerful a look as possible, but this just isn’t possible without a good lighting.

Hopefully this information will give you some ideas to implement for your kitchen and give it the look and feel you want. With kitchen lighting design in place you are in for a bright time ahead.
