Wow. I just got a nasty surprise.

If you accidentally push in the toggle switch when turning on the fan, it can short out, send sparks a few feet away and shock the crap out of you.

That was seriously unpleasant.

This fan stopped working correctly in less than a week. When I turn it on, it buzzes for several minutes until the motor can turn the blades, and the breeze it puts out is little more than if I just took a deep breath and blew.

Not much I can say that hasn’t already been said in previous reviews. (cute fan, too small, makes rattling noises, and just doesn’t push air adequately). Again, darn cute fan… but are we really supposed to pay $50 for a rattling fan that barely creates a slight breeze? I sent this fan back the day it arrived. Don’t buy it for the cute retro looks… it WILL disappoint you. (unless you only plan to use it as a light paper weight)

Have had this for a few months and using it periodically. Works great thus far. The noise of course is due to the fan moving at a high speed (when set to the higher setting). I like that it’s metal since most plastic fans looks so cheap and break or fall apart. For sixteen bucks from Amazon, it was a smoking deal for sure. Got the turquoise one.

Being metal also allows you to lock a cable to it (say if you leave it at your workplace).

Would recommend this at sixteen usd, but at fifty, probably not.

UPDATE 4/14/2010:

—————-

Turned it on just now and the motor just hummed. Had to tap it to get the motor running. It’s starting to behave old, creeky, and I sense it will die soon. The poor motor must be too small to run the metal fan blade over a period of time. I am very sad, as the unit looks so nice and being all metal seemed like it would be durable for some time to come.

If you are just looking to have some small fan in your kitchen this product will do but it is not as well put together in person (it looks hand painted).
