Occasionally everyone has the urge to change their living areas, even if it is just rearranging the furniture.  If more is needed finding home decorating ideas can be as simple as just looking around you where ever you may be.  In a furniture store or department store, see how tables are arranged.  Notice how accessories are placed.  In a hotel room, for instance, take note of picture placement, subjects of the pictures and styles of frames.  Touring an open house, a model home that has been showcased by experts, or even a museum tour will bring on lots of inspiration.  Carry a notebook around with you and jot down your new discoveries and take pictures if you are able.

Read home decorating magazines and cut out pictures of vignettes that you can incorporate into your rooms.  Look for the color combination that appeals to you and see how they can add to or change your existing spaces.  Designer magazines always feature beautiful houses and can bring out your own creativity for your home.

Online sites are useful for finding great home decorating ideas.  Many professional decorators offer wonderful tips on their websites.  There are blog sites written by people who like to share their decorating ideas and you are going to find all sorts of new insights. There are many ‘Do It Yourself’ television programs that offer hundreds of ideas.  Watch for something you like, jot these home decorating ideas down in your notebook. There is usually a matching .com address where you can find more information about anything you see on the program.  They generally offer, as well, information as to where some of the items can be purchased. Include this price information in your notebook.

Visiting the homes of your friends can give you an idea or two.  If you see changes, start a conversation about them and many more ideas will come from friendly brainstorming about fabric, paint color, window treatments and then you are on your way.  There is no limit to the range of unique decorating ideas you will find available just by looking around.

Finding new decorating ideas will become second nature to you as you begin to notice little things all around you where ever you go.  Maybe just the placement of a table by a window, a collection of glass bottles on a table, an arrangement of pictures on someone’s wall. Display your own hobby somewhere in your home.  There is no end of places to look, it just takes practice.  Your creative juices will be flowing all the time and your home will take on a whole new look with a minimum of expense.

Home Design Sense – Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Bedrooms are frequently redecorated in many homes. We look around at the new bedroom items in the stores and feel our room is outdated. However; when you think about it – it is only outdated because you saw newer items. There is no need to go out and purchased new bedding; unless of course; you are catering to heads of state. And even then; you really don’t need to go crazy and shatter your budget.

The quickest way to a new look is a splash of paint. Even if you use the same color (because you had paint left over), a fresh coat of color reinvigorates the room, makes it look cleaner, newer. If you’ve grown tired of your wall color, choose a new one. To start painting you need to drape protective cloths over the furniture. Most often – painting can cause you to think of others ways to rejuvenate the room.

You can also use wallpaper to change the look of a room; but it is much more work than painting. So; you may want to consider using faux finishes to spruce up the walls. Instead of purchasing books on faux finishes and decorative painting; check your public library to get some ideas.

If your budget is extremely limited, you might start by adding new pillow shams. Usually sold as a separate piece from comforters, sheets, or pillowcases, a sham is a highly decorative pillow covering. If you find a great deal on pillow shams you should buy them and fill them with plain foam pillows. Have you ever seen bedrooms in the fancy magazines? What do you see but; beds with loads of pillows to give the room a very sumptuous and relaxing look. The more pillows the better.

A new comforter or bedspread is another way to redecorate your bedroom inexpensively; but buy only during sales. Check local malls for discount linen stores, or browse the Internet for great deals on beautiful, but cheap comforters and bed skirts. Even flea markets sell overstocked items such as sheets and bedspreads and a great pricing. Of course; you can always bargain with the shop owner for a better price.

A simple way to create a coordinated look without spending a lot of money is to use bed sheets to make window treatments. Often, comforters are sold in “bed sets,” which contain the comforter, as well as a fitted sheet, flat sheet and pillowcases. Since you sheets will usually be covered by the comforter, you can use the fitted and flat sheets as material to frame bedroom windows. If you don’t sew, use the special “no-sew” fabric glue sold in craft and fabric stores to hem a nice edge. In a pinch, you can hold a hem using a hot glue gun.

Decorating or redecorating a bedroom is often a matter of changing one or two elements. Remember; if you have a guest room to make it as nice as your own bedroom. you want your guests to be comfortable. Try adding some scented candles and fresh cut flowers to the room to give your guests a true ‘welcome’ feeling.

Interior Home Design – Decorating Your Foyer

Before going into the foyer you should paint the outside of the entry door an inviting color. Why? Because it is the first thing people see when approaching your home and a lifeless door is not inviting anyone to enter. The color you use will depend upon the color of your home, but red has been used and is very popular.

This foyer is probably one of the most neglected areas of the home; yet it is the first room a visitor sees when entering your home. This is where visitors get the first impression of the rest of your home; so it should be nicely decorated and give a great image of your home. So what can you do to make it more presentable? That depends upon the size of the foyer.

If you have a large area you can use it as an art gallery to show you favorite pieces to all who enter. Perhaps you may want to put a chair in the corner, so someone entering can sit and remove the wet boots or just to relax for a moment.

But, what if you have a small foyer like most of us? Well, how about hanging a wall mirror or even a full length one. The mirror will make the area look larger. You could also hang one large picture or a few smaller ones. This gives the area interest and creates a focal point.

A dark entry can create a challenge for lighting. Use a fixture or chandelier that allows for brighter bulb wattage. Many fixtures only allow for 60 watts and in some areas that is not enough lighting. If you need even more lighting a mirror will reflect the existing light very nicely.

Of course, color is very important. It should reflect the preference you use in the rest of your home. Choose colors that make you feel good when you look at them in the store; but remember that the color will look different in your home and under your lighting. You want a color that will react nicely with you when you walk through the entry door into your foyer.

You can use a small table and add some pictures to accessorize the foyer or use it to hold keys, etc., but be sure the container is very decorative and doesn’t make it look like a mess of keys. And a nice plant and stand will bring the outdoors indoor.

Vignettes can also be created. These are miniature (in size not scale) scenes that depict areas or scenes you have seen and really liked; but can’t have because it is impractical. What do I mean? I designed an entry vignette with a garden bench, silk tree and potted flowers. I even added a small silk bird in the tree and some butterflies on the flowers. This was a condo project and my client loves gardens, but they don’t exist in condo developments.

Wall shelves are another way of decorating the foyer. You can display some of your favorite collectibles or even pictures of the family and friends. But don’t overdue the amount of items and place several together instead of spreading them all apart to take up space. Look through some decorating books for ideas.

Be creative with the foyer decorating and remember, it is the first room people see when entering your home!

Home Design Sense – Bargain Hunting Decorating

Posted by admin | Posted in Home Improvement | Posted on 22-08-2010

Interior design for bargain hunters is not new. Everyone is interested these days in making their money stretch as far as it possibly can. There are many possible ways to achieve this. The most important determining factor in your success is the amount of patience and time you are willing to invest in order to find and purchase true items of value and not frivolous purchases which are of significantly less value that you will regret later.

The places you will find most traditional bargain hunters looking for pieces related to interior design are places such as second hand furniture stores, seconds depots, and discount stores. If you shop around in these stores, you are likely to run across great purchases. These purchases might include items such as furniture, linens, accessories, etc.

Another potential place to purchase items would be yard sales, flea markets, auctions, and estate sales. These places are no longer areas where you will find the occasional bargain hunter and enormous amounts of obsolete and junk items. They have been commercialized as being places to find great deals and even the most common shopper has his or her eyes open for that great deal. And; they are still great resources for the bargain hunter who is looking to buy well-conditioned, new and usable items for a better cost then one would find in a department store.

An aspect of bargain hunting that many people do not ever even consider is the labor involved with creating the designs. This can include services such as painting, moving, carpet cleaning, ect. Labor prices are the end of interior design that are often the most costly (with the exception of furniture and flooring). Bargain hunting for labor is a bit different then bargain hunting for actual physical items. You might think that perhaps you can afford to hire someone for less actual dollars an hour that possess perhaps less skill then another more expensive worker. This is a tricky aspect of interior design for bargain hunters.

Keep in mind that workers who have more experience or are better skilled at a certain task will complete the work at a faster pace then the unskilled worker, thus actually evening out the hourly price, and also there is not as much of a possibility of costly mistakes. So, depending on the skill level of the worker involved, you might be better off with the more expensive yet more efficient laborer.

Whatever the market or product you are searching for, be a smart, price-savvy comparison shopper and exercise control over spending amounts. Establishing pre-set spending amounts is a form of self-discipline and should be exercised throughout the interior design process. Bargain hunting can be as simple as taking this principle to heart and applying it to all of your decorating activities.

Finally; your hard work and attention to detail can enormously decrease project costs. So if you have the time and the understanding to see an aspect of the designing through yourself, this alone can turn a large budgeted project into a small one. After all, that elbow grease can bring yu the project you have dreamed about and is now part of your home.

Home Design Sense – New Home Decorating

Posted by admin | Posted in Home Improvement | Posted on 25-05-2010

When decorating or making decorating decisions for new homes, it is important to remember that your decisions will be a part if the home for a long time – unless you can afford to re-decorate every few years. Before purchasing any furniture, paint colors or accessories consider your lifestyle and how you plan to live in the home. Also, throw out any pre-disposed notions of your old home; since the new one is structurally different. This is when you need to be open-minded and creative. Take your time and don’t rush and by all means don’t be influenced by friends, family or trends (unless you absolutely love the ideas).

The most important matter of concern when designing or planning interior design for new homes is to build an environment that caters to your specific needs. Creating a space that is accommodating to each person’s lifestyles is the general principle of new home design.

This may seem like very unusual advice concerning interior design for new homes especially coming from someone who is working within the design industry; but there is good explanation for this reasoning. A large, open space without viewing or visualizing any furniture content within that space is quite easy to get a little carried away with while making structural changes.

Try to get an idea of the type of furniture style you will want. If you already have a specific style be sure it will fit in the specific areas of the new home. Some furniture might be too small for large rooms.

Paint color should not be decided until you get all your items (furniture, fabrics accessories, ect.) together and finalized. Painting the wall color before deciding on the furniture could be costly if it does no work with he furniture colors.

Wallpaper is another choice that you might reconsider using while building interior design for new homes. Again, removing wallpaper and resurfacing the surface is often times quite a headache that can be avoided by using other alternatives for creative wall finishing. A great alternative for wallpaper that adds a great texture to the wall surfaces would be a finishing technique such as faux finishing, sponging, or stenciling. These choices offer you a variety of substitutes that are equally appealing and much easier to change then wallpaper. If you absolutely must have wallpaper in any of the rooms, try using a border to achieve the look you’re going for instead of covering the entire wall surface. If you prefer wallpaper be sure to follow the installation instructions fully or hire a professional.

Interior design for new homes can be a tricky process. There is a good possibility that the area pertained in your new home will be slightly larger or smaller then the space in your previous home. It is this reason that planning placement and theme of each space in your new home is so vitally important to successful interior design of new homes. Be sure to measure widths of furniture and doorways before moving day comes in order to avoid hassle while getting the furniture into your new living space. Take careful notice of any moving activity that occurs into and around your new home. Careless moving errors can disfigure floors and walls and create flaws in your new house before you have even begun living there.

Placement of furniture in new homes is one of the key aspects of unique interior design for new homes. If a room is very large you may want to consider making several seating arrangements rather than spacing the pieces out to fit the room. And separated seating groupings can give more privacy for reading and conversation away from the rest of the room activities.

Kitchen Decorating Accessories – Is The Best Necessary?

0

Posted by admin | Posted in Bedding & Bath | Posted on 08-05-2010

When it comes to getting kitchen decorating accessories, “the best” is a good goal. It’s nice to have things that are high quality – which usually means high price tag….Or is it?

Is these days of economic stress, it is important to take a look at the things we are spending our money on, and carefully consider alternatives to our instinctive behavior. As this applies to the best kitchen decorating accessories, we should think about the levels of investment, and determine which is right for us, at this point in our lives.

Choices….

There are many choices when it comes to where to buy kitchen decorative accessories and products. There are the high-end stores in the mall (like William-Sonoma), and there are free-standing specialty stores (like Bed, Bath, and Beyond). These tend to cater to the upper-end customers, those who have the money to spend without needing or wanting to look for bargains on basic things like kitchen decorating accessories. It’s best to look at these, but if you want a bargain there, watch for sales or be sure to take in a coupon to lower the cost on your purchase.

The bottom-end stores that carry kitchen decorating accessories, best or less-so, are the dollar stores. These often have all types of kitchen products – like measuring cups and spoons, vases, knives, and towels. Usually they are priced at 99 cents or a bit more – and you should be careful about the quality of the item, as they are sometimes familiar brands that have been discounted, but often they are made specifically for the dollar store from inferior or less-quality materials or designs.

What about a middle-ground for buying kitchen decorating accessories? The best would be to go to a lower-priced retailer and be able to buy quality products. Take a look at the “Better Homes & Gardens” line of products at Wal-Mart. It’s a good example of that niche.

When does it Matter?

For many products, like measuring spoons or cups, and vases, the quality isn’t that critical. You can tell from looking at a product before buying whether it is sturdy enough for the type of use it will be getting so that you get your money’s worth. For these types of kitchen decorating accessories, “the best” is simply a way to spend your money frivolously. For these products, usually buying less than the best will work fine.

But there are other products where buying a bit higher quality is more important. In this category are things like a vegetable peeler, a can opener, pizza slicer, a knife block with knives, and other specialty products.

For these, often the extra cost of a higher quality is well worth the greater enjoyment in using them. Whether you decide to buy the best in kitchen decorating accessories or products or not, choose wisely and you’ll be happier in the long run.
