if your defectiveis fillvalve is fluidmaster, check first their website if they have a replacement part for the model thats in your tank so you dont have to remove the whole thing. the replacement part i think is not available in stores like walmart or home depot. im glad i checked their website and found out there is such a replacement part…very easy to replace…less than 3 minutes and no tools required

The shank washer goes on the shank right before you put the fill valve in the tank. It will be on the inside of the tank when you are done.

When taking the old fill valve off, if you spray the shank & nut well with WD40 and let it soak about 30 minutes, it should be easier to remove.

This guy’s other video also said to turn bolt on the fill valve shank counterclockwise when removing the old one. WRONG. Turn the bolt clockwise to remove the old one. You could damage the tank if it’s tightened too much.

when taking the old fill valve out .. heres a trick I learned the hard way

take it apart enough on the inside … and grab the nut underneath then turn the fill valve like a bolt… to loosen the nut on the bottom

instead of fighting to get under there ..(like i did for 20 min)

Thank you very much for your very detailed “how to” instructions, you saved me time, money & aggrivation. My family thanks you also.

Just some advice on these types of videos. Number them. Yeah certain video sequences are obvious of course, but it helps in choosing them from the list on the right. Thx for posting this though!

What about the shank washer? When does that go on and how?
